Trick or Treat for Hunger: Let's Help Feed Our Neighbors!
Every year, I look for ways to bring our community together and help those who need it most. One of the easiest ways we can make a difference is by helping local families put food on their tables.
That’s why I’m hosting Trick or Treat for Hunger, a neighborhood food drive benefiting the Duluth Co-Op, part of Hands of Christ: Duluth Cooperative Ministry.
Why a Fall Food Drive Matters
Food pantries often experience some of their lowest food supplies in the fall, before the big holiday food drives begin. But families in our community need help all year long.
By donating a few extra items, we can help make sure our neighbors have access to the food they need. When we work together as a community, even small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
What Does the Duluth Co-Op Need Most Right Now?
I recently received an update about the items the Duluth Co-Op needs most, and I want to make sure we're collecting what will help them the most right now.
The biggest needs are:
Canned meats
Canned vegetables
Peanut butter
Jelly
These are the essentials they need help collecting right now.
The Co-Op currently has enough pasta sauce, cereal, cleaning products, and personal care items, so please hold off on donating those items for this drive. Let's focus our donations on the essentials listed above to help meet their most urgent needs.
Please make sure all food donations are sealed, unopened, and not expired.
How You Can Participate
The best part? Participating is easy, and you don't even have to leave your house!
Simply fill a bag with the requested non-perishable food items and place it by your mailbox on Sunday, November 8, 2026, by 1:00 PM. We'll come directly to your home to pick it up.
It's a simple way to give back, and every donation helps.
Let's Reach Our Goal Together!
Last year, our neighborhood collected nearly 1,000 pounds of food. That's something to be proud of!
This year, our goal is to collect 1,500 pounds. I know we can do it with a little help from everyone.
You don't have to donate a lot to make a difference. Even a few cans of meat or vegetables, or a jar of peanut butter and jelly, can help. When an entire neighborhood participates, those small contributions add up to something amazing.
